Everyone's Experience is Different

It's important to understand that your acupuncture treatments are unique to you. Each treatment can address your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Each treatment can also be a very sacred and personal experience.

Keep in mind too that your experience depends what your wanting to address. It also depends on the style of acupuncture that practitioner practices. To learn more about the different styles of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture read my post, How to Choose an Acupuncturist.

My First Acupuncture Experience

It was about eight years when I had my first acupuncture treatment. I was working a 9-5 job that caused a lot of emotional and physical stress. More often than not, it felt like I was carrying around bowling balls on my neck and shoulders. I slept well, but only out of exhaustion.

While researching acupuncturist in my area, I decided to choose one close to my home. At the time I was living downtown Cleveland and wanted a practitioner that I could walk to. When I arrived at the practitioners office, she greeted me and lead me into a private room. She asked me a few questions about my concerns, then had me lay face down on a massage table. She put the acupuncture needles in my neck, shoulders, upper back, along my spine, and lower back. The needles didn't hurt much. She then left me to rest for quite a while. Almost immediately after she left he room I felt relaxed. So relaxed, I fell asleep.

She came back into the room, removed the needles, and sent me on my way. When I got off the massage table I felt a little disoriented. The feeling was similar to when you wake up from a mid-afternoon nap. I was in a slight fog.

What Happened Next

Once I left her office and stepping outside, thats when the treatment hit me. The green tree's lining the concrete streets were brighter than before. The sun felt like a warm blanket, and the city sounds had dimmed to a soft hum. My perspective had shifted. The world in front of me, the streets I walked on every day were more vivid. I felt a deep appreciation for the environment that surrounded me.

Those bowling balls on my shoulders had lifted. I felt light. At ease. Physical movement was pain-free. That night I slept soundly, without a care in the world.

My first acupuncture treatment provided me with a new perspective. It gave me hope for healing my stressed body and mind. It was the catalyst for a new way of living.
